Scalds and Burns
Burns and scalds are skin and mucosas injuries due to either heat (hot liquids, flames, current, etc.) or chimic agents.
Burns are classified into:
- 1st grade flesh injury that recovers after 2-5 days without leaving marks
- 2nd grade: deeper injury causing blisters that recovers after 15 days
- 3rd grade: full-weight injury that leads to lose tissue recovering ability and permanent scars
- 4th grade: severe injury whose recovering time depends on lenght of affected area and other factors (e.g. age, time to get the first aid, etc.)
Burn's severity is related to its extension, besides to which area is affected: face, hands, feet increase the severity of the burn.
Scalds, which causes a redness, usually recover completely after 10-15 days leaving a mild hyperpigmentation that turns pale after a couple of month and years going bak to normal skin color.
Deeper burns usually leave a scar. Into the scarring tissue there're not elastic fibers and, therefore, skin bunch up and lose its normal features (hairs, sebaceous glands, etc.).
