It usually affects women between 45 and 55 years old, but it has been recorded cases of either premature menopause (smoke is one of the factors that lower the age of menopause) or delayed. menopause happens when uterus is surgically remove, too.

Its main feature is the vanishing of menstruation, linked to ceasing the production of follicula and oestrogens by ovaries.

The main symptoms of menopause include:

  • progressive decreasing of menstual flow until its total vanishing
  • hot flashes
  • oversweating
  • heart beats
  • flashed face
  • fatigue
  • impaired mood
  • insomnia
  • vaginal dryness
  • tendency to gain weight.

Hot flashes are the most common symptom of menopause affecting aboout the 80% of women. They can persiste for a couple of years.
They feature a heating feeling that goes through the entire body like a wave and it ends with cold sweats. They are localized at face, neck, and breastbone level. Hot flashes may be associated to heart beats and may upset the sleeping time.

Moreover, hormonal deficiency featuring menopause weighs on vaginal and urinary level increasing the risk of infections and irritations.

Shifts in mood, edginess, anxiety, and depression are also due to oestrogens deficiency.

Yet, the main problems linked to hormonal deficiency are those that affect bones and cardiovascular system.

The decreased hormone production is associated with a decreasing in bone mineralization, which means an increased bone fragility.

Oestrogens do protect woman during her fertile age against cardiovascular diseases.
