Infertility
Infertility primarily refers to the biological inability of a man or a woman to contribute to conception. Infertility may also refer to the state of a woman who is unable to carry a pregnancy to full term.
There are many biological causes of infertility.
Male infertility may be due to:
- impaired shape and movement of sperm
- low sperm concentration
- varicocele
- undescended testicle
- testosterone deficiency (male hypogonadism)
- genetic defects Such as Klinefelter's syndrome)
- infections (such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, prostatitis, urethritis, etc.)
- sexual disorders (erectile dysfunction, dyspaneuria, retrograde ejaculation, etc.)
- absecnce semen (ejaculate)
- misplaced urinary opening (hypospadias)
- anti-sperm antibodies
- cystic fibrosis
- emotional stress
- malnutrition
- obesity
- cancer and its treatment
- other medical conditions(such as diabetes, thyroid disease, Cushing's syndrome, or anemia)
- age(decline in fertility is common in men older than 35)
- enviromental and lifestyle factors (pesticides and other chemicals exposure, overheating the testicles, substances abuse, alcohol abuse, tobacco smoking).
Female infertility may be caused by:
- Fallopian tube damage or blockage
- endometriosis
- ovulation disorders
- elevated prolactin (hyperprolactinemia)
- polycystic ovary syndrome
- early menopause (premature ovarian failure)
- benign uterine fibroids
- pelvic adhesions
- medications
- thyroid problems
- cancer and its treatment
- other medical conditions
- age (after about age 32, a woman's fertility potential gradually declines)
- tobacco smoking
- alcohol use
- being overweight
- being underweight
- too much exercise
- excessive caffeine intake.
