Tribulus terrestris

Tribulus terrestris is a flowering plant in the family Zygophyllaceae, native to warm temperate and tropical regions of the Old World in southern Europe, southern Asia, throughout Africa, and in northern Australia.

The active compounds in tribulus are called steroidal saponins and are found primarily in the leaf.

Tribulus terrestris is a herb that has been used in the traditional medicine of China and India for centuries. It has become renowned in the mid-1990s, when Eastern European Olympic athletes said that taking tribulus helped their performance.

T. terrestris has been used as folk remedy for many purposes, such as:

  • as a tonic
  • as a aphrodisiac
  • as a diuretic
  • a anervine
  • to protect liver and kindeys
  • for urinary tract dysfunctions
  • to increse fertility in both men and women

Contraindications:
  • Do not use it during pregnancy or breast feeding
  • Individuals with hormone-dependent conditions, such as breast or prostate cancer, should not use tribulus.
